Hidden Treasure: the Sustainable Upside to Emerging Markets
Workshop 1.3.4 11.15-12.45
With both environmental & social issues pressing hard on the daily lives of millions of people, sustainability is a word with a ring to it in emerging markets. This session will seek to break the myth of sustainability practices as a competitive disadvantage in emerging markets, speakers will further seek to disband the misleading dichotomy between environmental and social priorities. The panel will expose some of the existing trends and best practices in Brazil, India, Mexico and South Africa, including the impact of the growing presence of large international FIs and the influence of multilateral financing bodies. The fast-growing opportunities in capital markets and the financing of environmentally friendly undertakings such as renewable energies will also be under discussion.
