UNEP FI 2007 Global Roundtable
Reports that Count: What the Market Needs
Workshop 2.4.2 15.00-16.30
How does sustainability reporting in its current form satisfy the needs of financial analysts vs other stakeholder groups? What needs to change in reporting to make it more relevant for financial markets? These and other questions around how sustainability reporting can help that environmental and social performance becomes part of investment decision making will be the core of this session, which will seek to answer the following questions:
- Do we need to integrate sustainability reporting into financial reporting to make it mainstream?
- How would sustainability reports have to look like that present sufficient and readable information for rating agencies and SRI investors? What are the gaps/problems of current reports?
- Are reports in their current format usable for benchmarking environmental and social performance in the financial industry?
- What should reports focus on: broad information to match all stakeholders' interests or targeted information to match responsible investors needs?
- Would report verification help to make sustainability reports more relevant?
