UNEP FI 2007 Global Roundtable
Sustainable Retail Banking - Push or Pull?
Workshop 1.3.1 11.15-12.45
Is a customer of green products wealthy, literate, educated and female or do these products sell to everyone? Is high publicity of global warming pushing customer preferences towards climate related retail products? Chicken or egg - what comes first: customer demand or product offer? This session will look at what's new on the green product market as well as seek to answer fundamental questions around green banking products, such as:
- How strong is demand, who are the customers of such products and are they willing to pay a premium for banking with a good conscience?
- Are these products profitable and for what bank does the offer of green products make business sense?
- Should a "green" element be part of every retail product just like ESG criteria should be a part of all investments?
