UNEP FI is a partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the private financial sector. It is governed by an elected Steering Committee comprised of representatives signatory institutions and a UNEP representative.
UNEP FI's annual work programme and regional activities are determined in consultation with the Steering Committee.
Until October 2003, UNEP FI consisted of two parallel initiatives - the Financial Institutions Initiative, and the Insurance Industry Initiative. In October 2003, the Initiatives were merged to reflect their close collaboration in the work programme and regional activities.
