Speaker biographies:
Mr. Chris Bray, Head of Environmental Risk Management, Barclays Bank
Chris Bray has been Head of Environmental Risk Management at Barclays since 1998. He is a banker by training having previously fulfilled management roles in corporate banking, electronic banking and strategic planning.
Barclays has a well-established mechanism for filtering clients' commercial land to determine the extent of any environmental degradation impacting collateral valuations. Last year over 5600 cases were processed, though his team's responsibilities extend across Barclays' global operations, bringing a wider remit than UK contaminated land issues.
He is a member of the Environmental Issues Advisory Panel at the British Bankers' Association, and is a member of the Environmental Liability Working Party at the Confederation of British Industry.
Chris represented Barclays in the collaborative work with ABN AMRO, Citibank and WestLB developing the project finance environmental and social due diligence framework, launched as the 'Equator Principles' earlier this year.
He is also a steering committee member for the United Nations Environment Programme, Financial Institutions Initiative.
