The first such workshop to be convened by the Latin American Task Force in Mexico, the training workshop sought to assist financial analysts to identify and assess environmental and social risk in credit lending and investment. At the end of the day participants were invited to brainstorm on the immediate needs of the Mexican financial sector in terms of implementing environmental and social policies and practices; among the comments and suggestions made, the need for far reaching awareness raising, both among the general public and finance-related actors such as regulators, relevant government agencies and industry associations.
The CEO Breakfast on the following day gathered over 20 high level representatives from the Mexican banking sector, including the Association of Mexican Banks. The business case for social and environmental risk assessment was presented, following which the results of the brainstorming session of the Workshop were shared and discussed. Participants showed a high level of commitment towards sustainability issues, while the banking association pledged to actively engage the banking sector on the road to sustainable finance.
