UNEP FI 2007 Global Roundtable

Financial Leadership in Carbon Markets - Executive Recognition

At the Global Roundtable in Melbourne, UNEP FI has for the first time recognized executives within the financial services who have contributed in a significant manner to the development of financial ideas, innovative products, institutional change and or the carbon markets themselves through the UNEP FI Carbon Leadership Award.

Four executive awards were given for each category of financial services: banking, Insurance/Reinsurance, Asset Management/Private Banking and Pension Funds. In addition, one award will be given for a representative from civil society who has collaborated with or supported financial service companies towards the same end.

Following nomination by colleagues or self-nomination, the award winners were selected from a large number of entries by a small group of UNEP FI’s long term climate change advisors.

During the UNEP FI Gala Dinner at the Melbourne Aquarium, the following colleagues were honoured for their most impressive commitment and innovative thinking around climate change and the financial sector with the UNEP FI Carbon Leadership Award:

• Dr. Daan Dijk (Rabobank Group) - Banking category
• Michael Hawker (Insurance Australia Group) - Insurance category
• Matthew Kiernan (Innovest Strategic Value Advisors) - Asset Management category
• Bob Welsh (VicSuper) - Pension fund category
• Aubrey Meyer (Global Commons Institute) - Civil society category

In addition UNEP FI has honoured four of its colleagues for their long term contribution to and support of UNEP FI through the UNEP FI life-time achievement award. These are Otti Bisang (Credit Suisse), Christopher Bray (Barclays), Hanns-Michael Hoelz (Deutsche Bank), and Martin Hancock (Westpac Banking Corporation).
