 UNEP FI Activities @ Rio+20United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development 20-22 June 2012 | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
From 20-22 June 2012, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together at the Rio+20 Conference, to shape the global debate on ways to reduce poverty, advance social equity, and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet. Rio+20 represents a watershed moment for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), given the conference’s focus on a more balanced, inclusive, and green economy. As UNEP’s dedicated finance and sustainability platform, UNEP FI is strongly engaged in Rio+20.
UNEP FI Position Paper
It is crucial that the role of the financial sector in achieving sustainable development be clearly reflected at Rio+20. The UNEP FI Position Paper, which has been consulted with our 200 plus financial institution members, makes a clear statement on the role of the financial sector in achieving sustainable development and offers a set of recommendations on how the international community and policy-makers can further enable and incentivise sustainable finance at Rio+20.
