Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc was incorporated on 22 August 1991 as a private limited liability company under the name Accident and General Insurance Company Limited. It changed its name to Custodian and Allied Insurance Limited on 5 February 1993 and became a public limited liability company on 29 September 2006. In 2012, Custodian acquired a majority shareholding in Crusader Nigeria Plc and following the approval of the merger of both companies, the resulting entity became known as Custodian and Allied Plc.

Custodian and Allied Plc is located in Lagos, Nigeria and is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under its registered address at 14b, Still Waters House Keffi Street Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. Custodian and Allied Plc shares are listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. Custodian and Allied Plc and its subsidiaries (the Group) are engaged in various business lines ranging from property-casualty insurance, life/health insurance, pension funds management and trusteeship.

Custodian and Allied Plc joined the UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative because it recognises that its operations and activities impact the environment, economy, and society. The company values the importance of ensuring that the Principles for Sustainable Insurance be carried out in a responsible and forward-looking manner. The company expects that being a signatory will assist with its commitment to continue putting in place strategies, systems and processes to ensure transparency, traceability, compliance, and accountability in a constantly evolving operating environment.
