Founded in 1948 as a public law institution, KfW is now the largest promotional bank and fourth largest issuer of debt securities in Europe. It ranks amongst the top seven banks in Germany by assets and employs over 3.600 staff. KfW performs its promotional tasks in four principal areas: investment finance, export and project finance, promotion of developing countries and advisory and other services. KfW’s headquarter is located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, but KfW also maintains branch offices in Berlin and Bonn and a liaison office to the European Union in Brussels as well as several offices in developing countries und countries in transition. The subsidiary DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH is based in Cologne.

KfW & CSR
In all its fields of activity, KfW makes major contributions to environmental protection and hence to sustainable development. It is a signatory of the UNEP “Statement by Financial Institutions on the Environment and Sustainable Development” and has set up a comprehensive environmental management system with guidelines for all fields of activity. Based on this, KfW promotes environmental investments, assesses the environmental impact of its finance projects and makes sure that its offices are run to environmental standards. In its Environmental Report, KfW presents its activities in the environment sector to the Board of Supervisory Directors and interested members of the public.
