In 2016, UNEP FI and partners trained 317 professionals from financial institutions across the globe. Since 2005, we have trained participants from 4,500 financial institutions all over the world. Courses are delivered by a combination of highly qualified independent experts from around the globe, and in 2016, we recruited a new tutor for our ESRA Training Programme in French. Last year, UNEP FI Training qualified for the UN Environment gender-responsive climate action stamp.

2016 was a very productive year as we continued to raise awareness, and trained hundreds of finance professionals across the globe on Sustainable Finance through online courses, in-person workshops and other events. In 2016, we ran 10 online courses on “Environmental and Social Risk Analysis” – in English, French and Spanish, and “Corporate Eco-efficiency in Financial Institutions” in Spanish. Moreover, we delivered 4 ESRA in-person training Workshops: in Lima, Peruin San Jose, Costa Ricain Asuncion, Paraguay and in Santiago, Chile.

Evaluation of the ESRA online courses

UNEP FI and its programme partners wished to evaluate the impact of the ESRA Online Courses in the financial activities of the former participating institutions who had taken the course six months or more since they participated in the ESRA Course. To measure the impact, the partners created a survey that could be completed online mid-2015 to mid-2016. As you can see in the survey, most participants have found the expertise they gained from the ESRA course has had a positive impact on their daily work.

The ESRA & CEFI Training Programmes are both products of UNEP FI, GIZ, and the INCAE Business School, with the support of the Ecobanking Project. The ESRA Training Programme was initially developed in Spanish in 2006 by the UNEP FI Latin American Regional Task Force, with the support of Bank of America. The English-language edition of the course was produced in 2007 thanks to the support of FMO. The French edition of the Course was produced in 2010 thanks to the support of DEG and Proparco/AFD.
