• UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance consultation heads to the Middle East & North Africa
  After four regional insurance markets, the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) takes its turn to partake in the United Nations-convened global consultation process to develop principles for sustainable insurance.
• UNEP FI, FMO, Access Bank Plc. and a number of other international partners are organising the Nigeria Sustainable Finance Week in Lagos, 7-9 September.
  Under the theme "Moving Frontiers - Sustainable Finance", the conference will offer participants with unique insights on ideas, opportunities and upcoming challenges in the fields of finance and sustainability.
• Event: Principles for Sustainable Insurance consultation takes off from Africa
  UNEP FI and the African insurance industry took the first steps of a global journey to develop sustainability principles for the insurance industry at the regional consultation meeting for Africa on 15-16 March, 2011.

UNEP FI launched its African Task Force in Midrand, South Africa, in January 2002.

The UNEP FI African Task Force members have led the way on ground-breaking projects such as:

• Success stories and drivers of Clean Development Mechanisms projects in sub-Saharan Africa;
• Innovative financing for sustainable small and medium enterprises in Africa;
• Narrowing the gap: A survey of barriers and drivers to commercial microfinance in Africa;
• The State of Responsible Investment in South Africa;
• Banking on Value: A New Approach to Credit Risk in Africa.

The African Task Force work programme is focused on setting sustainability priorities for the African financial sector and the overall integration of a triple bottom line approach to the operations of the African financial sector.

The African Task Force 2010 work programme is focused on climate change and water issues on the continent. Projects will be undertaken in collaboration with the Climate Change Working Group and the Water and Finance Working Group, to deliver expertise on these subjects in Africa and the Middle East. The African Task Force is also working on the translation and adaptation of our Environmental and Social Risk Analysis online training tool and workshops into French to better serve Francophone members and institutions in Africa, and in the course of 2010, will deliver several training and outreach events in Africa.
