UNEP FI has established a Regional Task Force in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Task Force aims to support and expand sustainable finance practices in Central and Eastern Europe by raising awareness in the region of the link between environment and finance. The task force will cover the EU Accession States, the Republics of the former Soviet Union as well as the Balkans.

UNEP FI’s new E-Learning Programme on Environmental and Social Risk Analysis (ESRA) provides guidance for risk managers and analysts in corporate, investment and retail banking. Participants will learn how consideration of social and environmental risks in mainstream financial analysis can open up a wide range of opportunities, both for financial institutions and for the promotion of sustainable development.
Goals
- Setting sustainability priorities for the financial sector in Central and Eastern Europe;
- Creating a forum of signatories in the region that are able to exchange ideas and best practice facilitated by the UNEP FI network;
- Integration of a triple bottom line approach to the operations of the CEE financial sector.
Work Programme
The Central and Eastern European Task Force is currently:
- Raising awareness in the region's finance sector of sustainability and environmental issues;
- Holding training and capacity-building workshops;
- Implementing the environmental credit risk information platform;
- Engaging with UNEP FI signatories in the region and integrating them into the network, recruiting new UNEP FI signatories and CEETF members.
