- UNEP FI and the Latin American Federation of Banks, FELABAN, are kick starting their recently agreed partnership in August by undertaking a pan-regional study on banking sustainability, with the technical support of BSD - the most important effort ever undertaken in the region.
The wide-ranging study, to be finalized in June 2012, will survey activities and trends with regards to sustainability among Latin American banks.

Latin America’s largest banking association, FELABAN, joined forces with UNEP FI in July as it unveiled a first-of-its-kind partnership that will plant the seeds for improved financial sustainability across the region.

Through its Latin American Task Force, UNEP FI is working with financial institutions throughout Latin America to support and expand sustainable financial practice in the region. The LATF’s activities include:
- Awareness-raising and dissemination
- Capacity-building through workshops and online training courses

Training
The Latin American Task Force initiated its training activities in 2005, by developing a one-day Country Workshop on Environmental & Social Risk for risk managers and analysts in corporate, investment and retail banking, followed by a CEO Breakfast on the same topic. The Workshop and CEO Breakfast have since been held in a variety of countries throughout Latin America, including the Caribbean, in both Spanish and English.
