Environmental and Social Risk Briefings"The drive for sustainability requires tools to understand and assess the impact anthropogenic activities are having on the environment and society. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative is developing such tools to assist its members to understand, identify and analyse the potential effects of their own, and their clients’, activities across a range of issues such as climate change, biodiversity, water, human rights and responsible investment.
"UNEP FI is delighted to have worked with URS Consultants in the development of these Guidance Notes. This set of notes is the first in a series and focuses specifically on the identification of environmental and social issues across key business sectors which can be incorporated into mainstream business risk analysis.
"The notes are aimed at our non-technical finance colleagues working in the business development functions in financial institutions. Given their intended international application across the spectrum of the finance sector, these notes are necessarily generic in nature. They are not meant to be overly technical, and in some cases may need to be modified for specific regional conditions in some of our member countries.
"We hope these notes will be useful to both new and existing members who are embarking/continuing on their sustainability journeys."
Martin Hancock, Chair UNEP FI
