  • Our Responsible Property Investing - What the leaders are doing report outlines the results of our study which focused on property investment portfolios that were currently being managed with consideration to sustainability or ESG issues. We present case studies that demonstrated the financial and environmental value of RPI and exemplified best practice and demonstrated high financial return. The study makes the connection between financial gain and responsible property investment.
  • Building responsible property portfolios is a review of current responsible property investing practices developed jointly by UNEP FI’s Property Working Group and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). By highlighting international best practice examples of leading UNEP FI and PRI Signatories, the report provides guidance on how the PRI can be applied to property assets.
  • Identifying how Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI) in direct property as an asset class differs from SRI in the more traditional or regular asset classes, Responsible Property Investment: Similar aims, Different Manifestations briefly explains that, whilst the same principles can be applied to property as equities, with respect to SRI the nature of direct property as an investment type means that there are practical differences in how to implement them.
  • What Do I Do Next? Toolkits to assist Property Investors in becoming responsible begin by outlining the key initial steps for property fund and asset managers who wish to manage their funds and investments more responsibly and assist them to do so. The toolkits present the link between theoretical knowledge on responsible property investment and practical implementation in asset management.
    • The first of these toolkits, Responsible Property Investing: Committing and Engaging, outlines a step by step plan to help investors implement RPI principles and integrate RPI into their corporate culture and practice.
    • The second toolkit in the series, Responsible Property Investing: Metrics for Performance Measurement, supports and encourages the development of RPI. This toolkit gives interested investors, property fund managers, and asset managers guidance on how to develop systems of metrics that measure RPI, how those metrics across property portfolios can be collected, and how the gathered information can be integrated into portfolio management.
    • The third toolkit, Disclosing Responsible Property Investing Strategies and Performance outlines steps for responsible property investors to disclose their ESG strategies and performance. It looks specifically at how property investors can design and implement an ESG report that discloses corporate governance and strategies on ESG-related issues, ESG performance against year-over-year benchmarks, and targets for future performance improvements.
    • The fourth of toolkits, Implementing responsible property investment strategies outlines a set of core issues that property investors may wish to consider when implementing a responsible property investment (RPI) strategy within their organization, focusing on how such process can help tie insight on ESG performance into property asset values and how such analysis may be incorporated in strategic asset allocation, stock selection and asset management.
  • UNEP FI / SBCI's Financial and Sustainability Metrics Report is an international review of sustainable building performance indicators and benchmarks that guides investors in global green building standards. The report gives an overview of the main principles and indicators used for defining sustainable building performance and outlines the key benchmarks that qualify sustainable, rather than standard, building performance. Finally, the report points out the most important financial performance indicators and benchmarks for sustainable buildings.
  • How to better manage property owner-occupier relationships, use them as an opportunity to increase sustainable behaviour, and more easily transition into or improve on Responsible Property Investment have been unanswered questions for many years. The Owner-Tenant Engagement In Responsible Property Investing report presents leading examples of property owner-tenant engagement activities aimed to further RPI.
