29 June 2016 | 28 Place de la Bourse, 75002 Paris, France

You are invited to the global launch of the statement into investor obligations and duties in Paris on Wednesday 29 June at Palais Brongniart. Following the launch, investors will be invited to support the statement from across the PRI and UNEP FI signatory base. In January 2016, the PRI, UNEP FI and The Generation Foundation launched a three year project to clarify investor duties in relation to the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues in investment practice and decision-making. This follows the publication in September 2015 of Fiduciary Duty in the 21st Century. Confirmed speakers at the event include Philippe Desfossés, CEO, ERAFP and Jean Boissinot, Direction Générale du Trésor (French Treasury). The project has three reinforcing components:

  1. Issue a Statement into Investor Obligations and Duties to call on international and national policy makers to introduce a policy instrument that clarifies investor obligations and duties, in particular, to make explicit reference to the requirement to integrate ESG issues in investment decision-making.
  2. Engage with key national stakeholders in the context of integrating ESG factors into fiduciary investors decision-making processes and develop actionable country roadmaps on the policy changes required to achieve full integration across eight countries.
  3. Extend the research into fiduciary and investors duties and direct engagement with stakeholders in five major Asian markets: China (including Hong Kong), India, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.

By signing the statement, investors will provide governments and supranational organisations with the confidence to act. They will help build greater consistency between countries about the duties of loyalty, prudence and competence that apply to all investors and that include ESG issues. The panel event will run from 5pm – 6.30pm, followed by a cocktail reception until 7.30pm. For more information, please contact policy@unpri.org.
