The multi-stakeholder platform for discussing sustainable finance in Turkey was organized for the second year by the Business Council for Sustainable Development Association Turkey, the UN Global Compact Turkey and UNEP FI. The 2014 edition, hosted by Borsa Istanbul, used ‘shared responsibility’ as the underlying theme for all panel discussions, covering issues such as effectively setting up and implementing corporate sustainability approaches through enhanced client – bank collaboration, scaling up sustainable investment through the adoption of sustainability indexes and increased transparency on corporate sustainability performance, or addressing the social dimension of economic growth through encouraging women’s financial inclusion and active participation in business. The forum was concluded with a session that illustrated the business case and institutional processes needed for integrating environmental and social criteria in investment and insurance, based on the perspectives and experiences of Intesa Sanpaolo and Munich Re. The uniqueness of the Forum in Turkey is that it convenes representatives from all segments of the financial industry, including banks, investors and insurers, as well as stakeholders such as academia, media, NGOs, and increasingly targeting Government institutions, around the topic of sustainable finance. A white paper with recommendations for further action will be formulated based on the Forum discussions. The Forum was supported by Garanti Bank and Sekerbank. http://www.tbcsd.org/Content/OverView/109/IISurdurulebilirFinansForumu.aspx
