About the UNEP FI Roundtable The UNEP FI 2003 Global Roundtable is the flagship event for UNEP Finance Initiatives, a unique public-private partnership between the United Nations and nearly 300 finance and insurance institutions. The Roundtable provides an opportunity for bankers, insurers, and asset managers from around the globe to discuss new ideas and challenges in the fields of finance, insurance, and sustainability. The Johannesburg Summit in 2002 recognised that financial institutions are critically important in the drive to integrate a “People, Planet, Prosperity” ethic into the workings of the market at every level. The UNEP FI 2003 Global Roundtable, “Sustaining Value”, explored how financial institutions and capital markets can become powerful drivers for sustainability. The 2003 Global Roundtable in Tokyo carried on a tradition which stretches back a decade, and has spanned the globe from Chicago, to Frankfurt, to Rio de Janeiro. ,

The UNEP FI 2003 Global Roundtable is supported by the UN Global Compact.

The Global CompactThe UN Global Compact is a voluntary corporate citizenship initiative with two complementary objectives:

  • Making the Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations
  • Facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders and promoting partnerships in support of UN goals

UNEP FI is the Secretariat for the UN Global Compact Working group on Investors and Sustainability.
