On the occasion of Japan’s presidency of the G20, UNEP FI co-convened the ‘Tokyo Dialogue on Sustainable Finance’ with Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) on 3rd of June at the International House of Japan in Tokyo. It was an invitation-only, full day conference aiming to provide a platform for a detailed discussion between the distinguished speakers and delegates from various sectors in the region, and from across the world. The conference was led by the private sector with the support of the relevant Ministries of the Japanese government and other international organisations.

The conference started with special video messages from Mark Carney, Christiana Figueres and Al Gore followed by distinguished keynote speakers and panel sessions by high level officials and experts in sustainability from various fields. Why sustainable finance needs to become a part of mainstream financing activities globally, and how that could be made possible was reaffirmed by the delegates. UNEP FI’s initiatives such as the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) were featured, and delegates benefitted from UNEP FI’s expertise in assessing climate risks and opportunities, and positive impact.
