The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity [CBD], together with the Government of Mexico, is inviting businesses to become a signatory to the Business and Biodiversity Pledge.

The Pledge provides an opportunity for business leaders to express the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem services for businesses, and to state their commitment towards taking positive action on biodiversity. This is the first time that such a statement will be issued. The timing is urgent, given the findings by the Global Biodiversity Outlook 4, that efforts are not on track to achieve the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

The Pledge is now open for signature. Businesses signing onto the Pledge should send the signed Pledge to kristina.bowers@cbd.int, together with a logo of their organization, which will be added to the document and the CBD website. The website will eventually provide the opportunity to voluntarily communicate on achievements. On 2 December 2016, in Cancun, Mexico, there will also be a formal signing ceremony for those businesses participating in the 2016 Business and Biodiversity Forum.
