“Benchmarking the insurance industry’s performance on the SDGs” webinar

Benchmarking the insurance industry’s performance on the SDGs

A webinar co-hosted by

UN Environment Programme’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI) &

World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA)

16 July 2020

About the webinar

Earlier in 2020, the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) announced the SDG2000—a list of the world’s 2,000 most influential companies based on their potential to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. The SDG2000 list includes 400 financial institutions across the banking, asset management, insurance, pension funds and sovereign wealth sectors, to be assessed and ranked by 2023.

Of the 400 financial institutions, 56 are insurance companies, majority of which are PSI signatories.

In recognition of the crucial role the financial sector has to play in mobilising the resources needed to achieve a sustainable future for all, WBA is undertaking a global consultation throughout 2020 to gather insights and feedback into the potential design and scope for a benchmark focused on the financial sector.

In this webinar, we will introduce the initial conceptual framework for the financial system benchmark, with a particular focus on the role of the insurance industry in contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.

We invite the insurance industry to join other actors—financial institutions, regulators, companies and civil society – in shaping the development of this benchmark.
