Banco del Bajío, S.A. Institución de Banca Múltiple is a commercial bank that has developed a business model focused on providing credit facilities to corporate clients, including loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (“SMES”) in Mexico. Beginning in 2020, they are improving their business model with the goal of expanding their customer segment by strengthening the digital channels to improve and provide services to all of their clients.
According to data published as of December 31, 2019 by the CNBV, Banco del Bajío, S.A. Institución de Banca Múltiple is the third largest bank in Mexico among those not affiliated with a foreign bank, as measured by their loan portfolio and total deposits. They are also the eighth largest bank nationwide as measured by their total loan portfolio, commercial loans, total deposits and shareholders’ equity. Together with their subsidiary Financiera Bajio, they provide a complete portfolio of banking products and services.
The Bank has taken initiatives in different areas in accordance with some basic principles of sustainability. Recently, a working group in this regard has been created with the objective to implement an integral sustainability strategy, which they will develop with the support of the UNEP FI team.
