The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is an international institution whose members comprise 60 countries, the European Community and the European Investment Bank. The EBRD operates in the countries of central and eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States committed to multiparty democracy, pluralism and market economics.

Its purpose is to foster the economic and democratic transition process and to promote private and entrepreneurial initiative in those countries through provision of loans, equity investments and technical cooperation. The Bank is directed by its Agreement to “promote, in the full range of its activities, environmentally sound and sustainable development”.

The EBRD signed the UNEP FI statement on 18th January 2005. The EBRD is currently chair of the UNEP FI Central and Eastern European Task Force (CEETF)
