The Investor Agenda is a common leadership agenda on the climate crisis that is unifying, comprehensive, and focused on accelerating investor action for meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement and contributing to a net-zero emissions economy.

UNEP FI, Asia Investor Group on Climate Change, CDP, CeresInvestor Group on Climate ChangeInstitutional Investors Group on Climate Change, and PRI are the seven key founding partners who launched this global platform at the 2018 Investor Summit on Climate Risk on 31 January 2018 in New York.

The Agenda draws on expertise from across the investor landscape to set out clearly joint expectations in four interlocking areas:

  • Corporate Engagement: Engaging companies to drive and demonstrate real progress in line with a 1.5-degree Celsius future.
  • Investment: Managing systemic climate risks in investor portfolios and enabling the transition by shifting capital to value-creating businesses set to succeed in a net-zero future.
  • Policy Advocacy: Advocating for policies aligned with delivering a just transition to a net-zero economy by 2050 or sooner.
  • Investor Disclosure: Enhancing investor disclosure to help stakeholders track investor action in line with a 1.5-degree Celsius pathway.

Since its inception, the Investor Agenda has been known for developing its policy statement from investors to governments released each year at COP. UNEP FI invites all its investor members to contribute to and sign the latest 2021 Global Investor Statement to Governments on the Climate Crisis. The statement will be published in advance of the G7 Summit on 11-13 June 2021 and UN General Assembly/Climate Week NYC on 20-26 September 2021. It will be used to support policy engagement on the road towards COP26 on 1-12 November 2021, where the statement will also be showcased. The 2019 version of this statement can be found here, which is signed by 631 investors with more than USD $37 trillion in assets. It urges government leaders to align policy frameworks with the goals of the Paris Agreement, encourage investment into low carbon transition, and support climate-related financial reporting.

UNEP FI also supports the Investor Agenda’s goal to help investors navigate the wealth of tools, approaches, and initiatives available to support them in each step of the journey on climate action whether it is beginning to implement climate actions, setting and achieving net-zero goals, or rapidly accelerating actions in support of a global net-zero emissions economy by 2050 or sooner.
