Banco do Nordeste do Brasil S.A. (Banco do Nordeste) is a publicly traded, mixed-economy company with private legal personality, with over 90% of its shares controlled by the Federal

Government; it is a multi-purpose financial institution that acts as a regional development agent.

The headquarters of Banco do Nordeste are located in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, from where the Bank’s operations are coordinated, covering 11 Brazilian states (the nine states of the Northeast Region and portions of northern Spain).

Banco do Nordeste manages the Constitutional Financing Fund for the Northeast (FNE), whose resources are directed to strategic areas, strengthening the priority productive sectors of the Region.

Among Banco do Nordeste’s most prominent programs are Crediamigo and Agroamigo, which are the urban and rural microfinance programs, respectively; there are also several programs aimed at all sizes of clients and the most varied economic activities, including infrastructure projects.

Because it operates in areas of great economic need, such as the Brazilian Semi-Arid region, the Bank’s action is focused on finding solutions to major regional development issues, transforming the Northeast and its participation in the economy.

These are the biggest challenges and main targets of the Bank’s policies, which operate aiming to expand opportunities, strengthen productive agents, generate impacts that meet the interests of Northeastern society, create jobs, improve family income, and promote social and financial inclusion.
