Brief Overview of Organization
Farmers Insurance Exchange, Fire Insurance Exchange, and Truck Insurance Exchange (collectively, the “Exchanges”) are the three lead insurers that make up the Farmers organization. They are inter‐insurance exchanges owned by their policyholders and organized under the laws of the State of California. The Exchanges, directly or through their subsidiaries and affiliates, offer homeowners insurance, auto insurance, commercial insurance, and financial services throughout the United States. Farmers Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively “FGI”) act as the attorney‐in‐fact (“AIF”) for the Exchanges and provide non‐claims administrative services on their behalf.
Farmers began as a simple car insurance company for farmers in 1928 and has become a multi‐line, multi‐company insurance and financial services group with a solid reputation today. Farmers proudly serves millions of customers across the United States through the efforts of more than 47,000 exclusive and independent agents and 21,000 employees.
Summary of Sustainability Strategy
Farmers Insurance is one of the largest and most reputable insurer groups in the United States. Since our founding in 1928, we have strived to provide quality insurance products at a reasonable price. In the decades that followed, we’ve grown and adapted to meet the changing needs of consumers, providing industry‐leading products and first‐rate services to the customers we are privileged to serve.
As the world continues to change at an unprecedented pace, we recognize the opportunity and responsibility we have to become a more environmentally focused organization that operates in a way that benefits our people, planet and communities.
We believe joining the UNEPFI’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative will help Farmers strengthen our commitment to socially responsible corporate citizenship, further incorporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations into our day‐to‐day business and strategy, and follow a well‐established framework to hold ourselves and our stakeholders accountable along the way. By becoming the first U.S. signatory, we hope to lead our industry and set an example for others to follow and enhance the collective impact of our efforts.
