Climate Week NYC 2026, taking place from 20–27 September alongside the United Nations General Assembly, provides a unique opportunity for the financial sector to engage with policymakers, businesses and market participants on the evolving sustainable finance landscape. With more than 1,000 events across New York City and beyond, the week will explore the opportunities and challenges of financing and delivering a sustainable, low-carbon and inclusive economy.

UNEP FI will mobilise its extensive network of banks, insurers and investors to highlight the critical role of finance in addressing climate change, nature loss and pollution. Through high-level discussions, events and major initiatives, UNEP FI will showcase financial-sector leadership and support collaboration that advances global sustainability goals.

UNEP FI events will offer members opportunities to connect with industry leaders, engage with emerging sustainable finance strategies, and share insights and experiences that help shape resilient, sustainable and inclusive economies.

PRI Investor Day during New York Climate Week will bring together senior representatives from across the responsible investment ecosystem to explore the practical, financially relevant drivers of long-term performance. The event will share actionable insights on translating responsible investment commitments into measurable action across portfolios and the real economy, including stewardship, policy engagement, capital allocation and value creation.

The PRI will convene its signatories during New York Climate Week.

Headlined by PRI’s Interim CEO Cambria Allen-Ratzlaff and other executive members, PRI Investor Day will convene senior representatives from across the responsible investment ecosystem for high-impact conversations. Through dynamic panel discussions and interactive dialogue, the gathering offers a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and thought leadership at a critical moment for the global financial system.

The event will conclude with the announcement of the PRI Awards 2026, recognising PRI signatories who have demonstrated responsible investment leadership and innovation on climate, investment strategy, human rights, nature, communications and stewardship. We will also announce three special awards for private markets, asset owners and emerging markets.

21 Sep | 13:30–15:30 EDT | Accelerating Business Leadership on Air Pollution

This roundtable, co-hosted by the UNGC, UNEP and the Stockholm Environment Institute during Climate Week NYC, will bring together leaders from business, government, finance and civil society to advance action on air pollution. The discussion will explore how stronger corporate leadership, partnerships and collective action can deliver cleaner air while supporting public health, climate mitigation and sustainable development.

Air pollution is a major environmental and public health challenge, contributing to an estimated seven million premature deaths each year and significant global economic costs. It is also closely linked to climate change: many measures to reduce emissions can deliver simultaneous benefits for air quality, health and climate mitigation.

Despite these connections, air pollution has received less attention in corporate sustainability agendas than climate change. This invitation-only roundtable will examine how businesses, investors, governments and international organisations can strengthen leadership and accelerate collective ambition on clean air.

The conversation will draw on emerging insights from the 2025–2027 Strengthening Corporate Capacities and Leadership for Clean Air project, implemented by UNEP, the UN Global Compact and Stockholm Environment Institute, with support from the Clean Air Fund. Participants will share practical approaches, identify opportunities to strengthen the enabling environment for corporate action, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies, and develop recommendations for future partnerships and global action.

Recognised for uniting asset owners with over USD $3 trillion in assets under management, the Sustainable Investment Forum in official partnership with UNEP FI, will set the stage for the finance community during Climate Week NYC for its 11th annual edition.

This member-only session will explore how innovation banking and sustainable finance can help climate technologies bridge the gap between early-stage venture funding and conventional infrastructure finance. It will examine financing approaches that can support first commercial deployments and make climate technology more bankable.

From carbon capture and long-duration storage to energy efficiency and grid software, many climate technologies do not fit classic financing models. They may be too capital-intensive for venture capital, yet not sufficiently proven or contracted for infrastructure project finance. This creates a “missing middle”, where promising companies struggle to secure funding for their first commercial deployments.

Increasingly, private funds and innovation banking units are helping to bridge this gap through venture debt, growth lending and structured finance for pre-profit climate companies. This session will explore the intersection of innovation banking and sustainable finance, and what it takes to make climate technology bankable.
