Günther Thallinger has been reelected as Chair of the UN-convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance for the next two years.  He says: “ I am grateful for the opportunity to support the Alliance. Strong collaboration and members’ expertise has made the Alliance the success it is today. My thanks go particularly to the outgoing implementation work track leads for their outstanding contributions, and the incoming work track leads for agreeing to continue the pioneering work of the Alliance into 2023 and beyond. The Alliance is a good example showcasing that investors can effectively work towards net-zero .”

Over the last three years, the Alliance’s membership has grown nearly sevenfold to 83 asset owners managing US$11 trillion, from 12 managing US$2.4 trillion at the launch. The aim to grow to 200 members, or US$25 trillion in assets by 2025, is certainly ambitious but essential in the global efforts to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

About the UN-convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance

The Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance is a member-led initiative of 83 institutional investors, with over US$11 trillion in assets under management, committed to transitioning their investment portfolios to net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. The Alliance members were the first in financial industry to set intermediate targets (aligned with the Paris Agreement schedule) and they report on their progress annually. The Alliance is convened by UNEP FI and PRI and is supported by WWF and Global Optimism.
