Caisse des Dépôts & Sustainability
For Caisse des Dépôts, as for any other large company or institution, contributing to sustainable development involves seeking performance on three registers: economic, social and environmental. Performance in each domain is measured by its direct impact on society. As a major financial institution serving France, Caisse des Dépôts has an impact on local and regional development, on company development and job creation as well as on inter-generational, societal and economic solidarity. As a major institutional investor, Caisse des Dépôts focuses on generating a long-term return on its investments, an essential condition for sustainable development. Caisse des Dépôts pioneers in carbon finance through innovative financial tools allowing a positive business response to reduce carbon emissions. Its engineering and service subsidiaries in the transportation, real estate, infrastructure and tourism sectors are directly involved in societal and environmental challenges.
To help meet these challenges, Caisse des Dépôts has created a Sustainability Department to coordinate and promote these activities and has adopted a three-fold approach: social and environmental responsibility, socially responsible investing, fighting global warming.
Caisse des Dépôts is actively involved in the UNEP FI programme. It is a key sponsor to the Principles for Responsible Investment Project. The aim of the project is to develop and promote a set of principles that defines what constitutes responsible investment and that is endorsed by both the UN and leading institutional investors worldwide. Caisse des Dépôts joined UNEP FI in 2004. It has been involved in various UNEP FI activities since 2003.
