This section provides a curated selection of articles, research, and policy updates relevant to insurers and nature. It is intended as an indicative—not exhaustive—overview of case studies, opportunities and examples of how insurers are integrating nature into their business. The materials do not represent the views of UNEP FI or the PSI Working Group for Nature.

Emerging Insurance Solutions
  • Insurance for Nature Positive: Products and risk-transfer instruments that (a) de-risk and enable investment in conservation, restoration and sustainable management, (b) insure natural assets and NbS to strengthen ecosystem resilience and deliver benefits to people, and (c) scale businesses delivering positive outcomes for nature.
  • Resilience insurance: Integrating the risk-reduction value of nature-based solutions (NbS) into premium pricing and product design, particularly for property and business interruption insurance.
  • Transition insurance: Tailored products and risk-transfer solutions that support clients in achieving nature-related goals (e.g. sustainability-linked insurance with nature KPIs), while covering risks linked to transition activities and value-chain transformation.
  • Life & Health insurance: Products and services that (a) prevent or reduce health risks from nature loss, (b) incentivize sustainable lifestyle choices, and (c) engage healthcare providers to minimize impacts on nature.
