BPI focuses its activity on commercial banking in Portugal and is the fourth largest financial institution in the country by business volume. Despite not having commercial operations overseas, BPI has relevant equity holdings in African banks, specifically in Angola and Mozambique.

BPI Sustainability Strategy
In 2022, BPI defined eight priority Sustainable Development Goals and launched its sustainability strategy for 2022-2024 which focuses on three lines of action: 1) Support the sustainable transition of clients and society; 2) Lead in social impact and promote social inclusion and 3) Lead in the best governance practices. These strategic lines materialize in a set of initiatives and targets to which all the departments of the bank contribute.
Until 2024, BPI commits to mobilize 2 billion Euros in sustainable finance and to impact 120 000 people through its joint work with “la Caixa” Foundation.
