The UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is hosting the event “Advancing climate and nature capabilities of African financial institutions” on 1 October 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa in collaboration with Banking Association South Africa (BASA), the Southern African Development Community Banking Association (SADC BA) and Standard Bank Group (SBG).

Taking place alongside the 4th G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG), the event will convene senior and technical representatives from participating financial regulators, banking associations and African financial institutions, as well as other relevant national and regional stakeholders to discuss climate policy, nature finance, and advancing the technical climate capabilities of African institutions.

The event, structured into two parts – a high-level dialogue and technical workshop, will explore climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and the links between nature and climate, with an emphasis on embedding these approaches into governance, risk management and day-to-day operations, products and decision-making of financial institutions.

The event will take place at the Standard Bank Liberty Campus in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. Please note that space is limited, so it is recommended to register early. Registration does not guarantee attendance; confirmation will be sent by email.
