Geneva, 1 April 2026—UNEP FI is pleased to announce the release of its Climate Pathways Navigator, a unique tool that gives financial institutions direct access to the climate scenario data they need to make informed, science-based decisions on their decarbonization pathways.

The Climate Pathways Navigator helps financial institutions to embed sustainability into their core business, set individual science-based targets, inform their transition plans and those of their clients, and better engage clients and investees on climate action by having the right data available to them in one place.

Created by UNEP FI, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the tool has been built and refined with over a year of testing with banks, investors, insurers, and export credit agencies. It cuts through hundreds of complex climate scenarios to make available the exact sectoral and regional data points financial institutions need, in one easy-to-use interface.

The tool is unique as it brings together emission scenarios assessed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as well as those designed by industry, helping financial institutions find the pathways they need across sectors and regions within minutes.

UNEP FI Head, Eric Usher, said: “Critical to strategic action on climate by financial institutions and others, is a deep understanding of climate scenarios. Without that scientific grounding, the financial sector is working with incomplete information, and incomplete information leads to incomplete action.”

He continued, “Partnering with IIASA and PIK on this important tool is groundbreaking. The Climate Pathways Navigator brings a granular and detailed level of science, and represents a significant advance in making complex climate scenario data accessible and actionable for financial institutions.”

The UNEP FI Climate Pathways Navigator complements the wider suite of UNEP FI resources helping UNEP FI members as they work towards fulfilling their commitments under the Principles for Responsible Banking and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance. It is freely available for use by UNEP FI members and the broader finance sector, as well as governments and policymakers, demonstrating UNEP FI’s commitment to providing access to high-quality climate scenario analysis and supporting progress on climate action.
