The COP30 Global Sustainable Insurance Summit took place at the Casa do Seguro (“House of Insurance”) in Belém, Brazil.
Convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in partnership with the Brazilian Insurance Confederation (CNseg), the Summit highlighted the ambition and action needed across the insurance, financial, regulatory and supervisory communities—and among policymakers, businesses, scientists and civil society—to accelerate and scale up a just transition to inclusive, resilient and sustainable economies.
Through high-level dialogue, flagship launches and practical examples, the Summit demonstrated how insurers are integrating sustainability across underwriting and investment portfolios to manage risks, seize opportunities and strengthen resilience. By reaffirming the industry’s role as society’s risk manager, the “House of Insurance” at COP30 stood as a symbol of inclusiveness, resilience, sustainability and hope.
The programme spanned three days:
- 10 November 2025 – Insurability, Inclusion & Resilience Day
- 15 November 2025 – Net-Zero, Nature-Positive & Just Transition Day
- 21 November 2025 – Latin American Leadership & COP31 Day
Looking forward to COP31
Three clear messages emerged across the Summit:
- Insurance is now central to the global climate and development agenda. Insurers bring risk modelling, capital, and long-term planning — all essential for national adaptation strategies.
- Solutions exist — the challenge is scale and coordination. Nature-based insurance, blended finance, captives, sovereign risk tools and just transition frameworks are ready to deploy.
- Insurers must be architects of systemic resilience. This means designing for people, pricing prevention, embedding nature and transition plans into the core business, and collaborating across governments, finance and communities.
As the world moves toward COP31, the Summit reinforced that maintaining insurability is not only an industry challenge — it is a societal imperative.
