Year 6 Update >>

In 2019, a pioneering group 130 global banks became signatories to the UN Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB). Seven years on, that cohort is now over 350 institutions—representing more than 85 countries and over half the world’s banking sector by value.

As part of the UN Responsible Banking Community, PRB signatories are shaping market practice and convening with key actors for systemic change. By engaging their banks’ sustainability, risk and commercial teams, signatories strengthen banking sector resilience, as well as enable and accelerate real economy transition.

Spotlighting that momentum and further demonstrating the progress signatories have made, new research from MSCI* shows them outperforming their peers:

  • 66% of PRB banks are rated sustainability leaders vs. 28% of non-PRB banks.*
  • Almost 90% of PRB banks offer sustainability-related financial products vs. 46% of non-PRB banks*
  • PRB banks are 5x more likely to adopt specific environmental credit-risk policies than non-PRB banks*
