Shaping the sustainable insurance agenda in North America
An event convened by UN Environment’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI) and Munich Re, US
27-28 November 2017
Munich Re, US Home Office
Princeton, New Jersey, USA
About the event
The “Shaping the sustainable insurance agenda in North America” event in November 2017 will be the inaugural PSI event in the US. The event is expected to articulate core elements of a North American sustainable insurance agenda that would set the foundation for a roadmap to catalyze action and raise ambition in building resilient and sustainable communities and economies.
The event will cover key sustainability challenges and opportunities for the North American insurance industry, including climate change, natural disasters, cities, infrastructure and insurtech, also in the context of global policy frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. It will convene insurance industry leaders in the US, Canada and Bermuda, as well as insurance regulators and associations, investors, rating agencies, and senior representatives from the wider business community, the UN, academia, and the development community.
The Princeton event is a practical follow-up to the first-ever insurance industry and cities summit held at the Resilient Cities Congress in Bonn, Germany in May 2017. The summit was convened by the PSI and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, and sponsored by Munich Re. It produced the “Bonn Ambition”—three major goals to be achieved by the time of the ICLEI World Congress in Montréal, Canada in June 2018. These goals aim to set the global agenda for the insurance industry and cities in the context of risk management, insurance and investment, and to accelerate global and local action on urban resilience and sustainability.
Therefore, the Princeton event’s aim of shaping the sustainable insurance agenda in North America will also strengthen the global effort of insuring for sustainable development.
Previous PSI market events were hosted by Aviva and Lloyd’s in London (2014), Swiss Re in Rüschlikon (2015), the Philippine Insurers & Reinsurers Association in Manila (2016) and Allianz in Munich (2016).
